Well, oddly enough, I’m not seeing a lot of coverage of this world-wide baseball event. Sowbc logo this morning I tracked down further information.

And, once again, the USA comes away empty-handed. Am I alone in asking “How This Can Be?” It’s our National Pastime. We’re a country of more than 313,914,040. And yet: we lose.

To the Dominican Republic (population 10,056,181), on Thursday, March 14, 3-1.

And then again to Puerto Rico (population 3,667,084), on Friday, March 15, 4-3.

Well, if it makes us feel any better (and it doesn’t) the Dominican Republic beat the Netherlands, 4-1, and Puerto Rico beat Japan, 3-1, so both of these teams have advanced to the Championship round.

So, who will it be? The Champion of the Baseball World? The DR vs. the PR.

The game is tonight, 8 pm Eastern Time, and you can follow it on the WBC website. Wondering who to root for? Pitching tonight for the Dominican Republic is our own (Twins) Sudden Sam Deduno, while the Puerto Rican starter is Giancarlo Alverado, who apparently is now pitching with the Yokohama DeNA BayStars of Japan’s Central League.
