…and today’s baseball history

A few highlights

1935: Babe Ruth’s final at-bat. First inning of a double-header, Boston Braves vs. the Babe Ruth Boston BravesPhiladelphia Phillies, in the Baker Bowl, Philadelphia. On May 25th of ’35 he hit his last 3 home runs, against the Pirates. But in his last at-bat he grounds out.

1956: Mickey Mantle hits his 20th home run of the season. No one else has hit 20 home runs before June. His 20th very nearly gets hit out of Yankee Stadium, something no one else has ever done. It is still gaining altitude when it caroms off the upper stand’s facade, 396 from home plate and 18 inches from going over.
