August, and with the Twins 16 1/2 games back, we’re seeing a new cast of characters on the field, as the Twins call up prospects and hopefuls for the future.
Last night we had a nice major league debut by Andrew Albers, just up from AAA ball. The Twins rookie southpaw threw 8 and 1/3 innings, gave up 4 hits and no runs as the Twins white-washed the Royals, 7-0. Can’t ask for much more than that.
Albers is another independent league find, pitching in the Can-Am league in 2010. He’s 11-5 this year at Rochester, with a 2.86 ERA. His fast ball is in the upper 80s, they say, but he’s “deceptive.”
Chris Colabello hit his third home run in the game as well. He’s only hitting about a buck eighty now, but let’s keep running him out there.
